Normandy

Mark and I took the train up to Caen and picked up a rental car for a tour around Normandy.  We got very luck as the weather was gorgeous and the driving was very easy.

We headed straight for the coast.

And to June Beach Centre, which is the Canadian centre that honors and explains the role of Canadian forces on the D-day landing on the beaches of Normandy and the whole war effort.

The center was extremely lovely and right on the dunes of the beaches where the Canadian soldiers landed.

I was very impressed with how the information was presented from the old fashioned radios with broadcasts of Hitler,  Person and others to the displays chronologically breaking down what was happening throughout the war and on the actual D-day

These were booths that you could sit in and listen to letters home from soldiers describing their experiences.

We also took the free tour of the bunkers and beach provided by one of the great staff members at the center.

It gave us a great understanding of what the events of that day where actually like.  Very impressive place that I think every Canadian should visit.
