Catacombs

So, I've learned a valuable lesson about Paris on this excursion.  Always assume there will a line and ask the door man what time is the best time to avoid the line.  I couldn't have imagined that there would be a two hour line up for the catacombs but there was and we stood there for all two hours only to find out that later in the day, there wouldn't have been any line at all.  Oh well, lesson learned.

This is a bizarre place created by Parisians clearing their cemeteries for land development as the city grew. Six million sets of remains were moved down into underground ossuaries and it became a tourist draw in the late 1800s.  There were informational signs throughout the tunnels but, oddly, they were all about the geography of the stone rather than the remains or the project.

All the teeth were missing...wonder where they went?  Incidentally, if you're considering visiting, go at 5:30 on a Wednesday or Friday when they're open late.
